Megumi: Until They Took Her Away |
|||||
![]() Megumi: Until They Took Her Away is based on the true and still unresolved kidnapping of Japanese schoolgirl Megumi Yokota from the coastal city of Niigata in 1974. The film focuses on the personal loss, hope and longing of her family and those close to Megumi, all of whom patiently await her return. Rather than a reconstruction of this tragic story, Megumi: Until They Took Her Away is a poetic and visual interpretation of the heartbreaking event. It is filmed from the perspective of a Dutch filmmaker who becomes so involved and committed that she starts to believe, like Megumi's parents, that Megumi is really still alive. Currently in postproduction in The Netherlands and Japan. Scheduled for release in late 2007. Written and Directed by Mirjam van Veelen. Produced by Mirjam van Veelen and John Williams. |
